Chichen Itza, it is one of the main archaeological sites of Mexico, it is an essential stop that you must make to visit this wonder of the world. It is located on the Yucatan Peninsula and is one of the most important relics of the Mayan Civilization, named a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
Chichen Itza means "Boca del Pozo" and refers to the sacred cenote located north of the Kukulcán pyramid, a place with 15 square kilometers where you will find much more of the monumental history inherited by the Maya
s. La Pyramid or Castle, is a sculptural sanctuary of the city of Chichen Itza, a work that highlights the mathematical, astronomical and geometric knowledge of the Maya. Its building constitutes the famous Mayan calendar consisting of the Haab cycle with 19 months: 18 of (20 days) and one of 5 for the 365 days of year representing the steps of the pyramid.
At the foot of the Pyramid you will find two heads of snakes, representative of the Maya as a God. In other Temples of Chichen Itza you will also be able to observe parts of the snake body.
What can you visit?
Caracol, is another structure of the Mayan Civilization and is also located in Chichen Itza, its name is due to the spiral-shaped stairs within the sculpture. The history goes back, in which in this tower the Maya could observe the changes in the sky.
The Temple of Warriors
The temple is inspired by the architecture of the Toltecs, one of the pre-Hispanic cultures in Mexico, and consists of a square of a thousand columns that together make up the Temple of the Warriors.
It is an altar built by the Maya where they nailed the heads of enemies or sacrificed captives to honor the gods.
