El Rey Archaeological Zone

A majestic gem with an ancestral cultural historyEl Rey is one of the most important archaeological areas on the island of Cancun, is located in the state of Quintana Roo, specifically in the hotel area, a place that has become the main tourist attraction for lovers of Mexican culture. A majestic gem, near kukulcán boulevard, where you will find an ancestral cultural history formed by some 47 religious structures between temples, castles, and columns that involve forming an ancient Mayan empire. Its most important structure, a temple in a pyramid-shaped base that today, thanks to archaeological interventions you can visit this and other Mayan figures that marked the cultural history in Mexico. This archaeological relic was named El Rey for the appearance of a monarch sculpture, which today rests in the Mayan Museum of Cancun, so far the real name in Mayan language is not known.
